Course Description

This course provides students with familiar basic concepts of how the web works and hands-on experience in creating web sites.  Students will use web design and graphics software to create professional-looking web sites.  This course will be taught in a lab setting, allowing each student extensive hands-on experience.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in basic PC operation.
  2. Demonstrate ability to create basic web pages from a simple text editor.
  3. Demonstrate ability to do text editing, style changes, alignment, cutting and pasting.
  4. Explain and construct the creation of a website.
  5. Manipulate graphics files and place those files in a web page.
  6. Demonstrate ability to import artwork and text from word processors and other web pages to incorporate into your own website.

Evaluation

Attendance:
Class attendance is extremely important.  We only have 11 class sessions.  Past attendance history shows that the majority of students who miss more than two classes do not successfully complete this class.

Assignments:
    All homework assignments are to be completed through this website before the beginning of class.  If you are absent, coursework is still due at that time.  Only in extreme circumstances will make-up of tests be permitted.  Tests must be made-up before the next class session.
    A final project will involve construction and publishing of a personal (or business) website.  The website should include a minimum of 4 pages with the following:

Grading Scale:

A 95-100         C+         77-79
A-         94-90 C 74-76
B+ 87-89 C- 70-73
B 84-86 NC 0-69
B- 80-83    

Grading:

Homework Assignments     50%
