Final Project

You can use whatever editor you want. Sound easy? Good.

Following are the minumum requirements for a final website.

Minumum
Number of
Occurences
Item
4 Separate HTM documents that link together. One of the documents should be named index.htm and be the primary page.
6 Hyperlinks. 4 of these should be relative references, and the other 4..OK the other 2 should be absolute references.
3 Images. One of these should be used as a background (it does not have to be the background on every page). The background cannot be a loud color that is distracting and drowns out the text. All images need to be optimized for the web (ie set the correct dpi, image format for the picture type and image dimensions). A bad example would be an image at 300dpi and 1024x768 pixels. The tools we used in class for this were MS Paintbrush(comes with ANY version of Windows) and MS PhotoEditor(comes with MS Office).
1 CSS file to be common to all 4 pages. If you don't know what this means, read through your notes and your book. Think about it for at least 30 minutes before you ask me.
1 Table. You can use this table to organize data or you can use it to help with page layout.
1 Script. This script can be on your site or elsewhere. It should be Javascript or CGI. You will have the best luck creating or finding a javascript (I suggest you show up the week we talk about scripts).
5 Golden Rings. 4 Calling birds. 3 French Hens...Sorry, scratch this line. Trying to transcript final project with Christmas Cantata

Be sure to comment your HTML document to explain certain reasoning behind using a certain tag. View source on this document to view my secret messages.

Besides containing the above features, your site should use them in a way that makes sense. Translation: do not put a table at the bottom of your page just to have a table. It should solve an issue, like "How can I best arrange the spring schedule" or "How can I create a photo gallery"

Be sure that your code has no errors and that there are no unnecessary tags. Proper use of tags(eg: H1, Font, BR, P, PRE ...) is critical. Don't just underline words or use formatting where it doesn't make sense.

Your ability to creatively integrate the concepts we covered in class into your project will be a critical factor to your project grade. If you copy code from the book, or from my site directly, it does not show that you understand the material. If you turn in such a project, it will hurt your grade. It is fine to view everyone elses source, but you should try to adjust it to your liking. Doing without understanding is like a lemming jumping off of a cliff. You are not a lemming, you have cognitive skills that give you the ability to reason. Use these powers for good and you will be blessed with a passing grade.

All HTML documents should be posted to your geocities site for review. You must email me the url for your site. I will also compose an anonymous links page on the online classroom to each of your sites. You will have a chance to view and vote on the sites of your peers. A token prize will be given awarded to the winners. The 3 winners will be posted on the website with links to the winning pages.

It could be fame, fortune..or half of a bagel.

Only 1 entry per participant. Winners certify that they are over the age of 18 and have not won a price in CIS185 in the previous 12 weeks. By winning, you authorize intructor to publicize the fact that you were in class and that you thoroughly enjoyed yourself every minute of every day. Employees or family members of employees or friends of family members who know somebody whose cousin used to date a former teacher who knew someone who participated are prohibited from entering in this contest.
